How Big Boned BBQ began
Our barbecue journey began with a book, a tank and a trailer. I credit my early success to my good friend Cory Irby. He gave me a copy of Smoke and Spice and countless hours of barbecue advice. I also credit my father who, through many patient hours, taught me how to weld. What started out as a four-foot air compressor and a couple of sheets of ¼ inch steel quickly became my first barbecue trailer.
After my first successful pig roast, I quickly realized that I had a really great product that people truly enjoyed. One hundred smiling faces can’t be wrong. At that time, I also realized that I need a bigger cooker. I spent the next winter fabricating a six foot offset smoker with oven, side burners, and charcoal grill to accommodate any size party. I also did this to enter the barbecue competition arena.
I would soon realize that competitive barbecue cooking requires a small team of well-organized individuals working together as one. We were now Big Boned BBQ the competition smoking team. Our first event was the Ocean State Spring BBQ cook-off 2005, and we placed 9th in beef brisket. It was a great start to a summer that would lead to three more awards, ending the summer on a high note winning first place pork at the 2nd annual Cape Cod Classic, and getting mentioned in National Barbecue News.
We are now pleased to offer our great food and great service to you, our valued customer. I could have never imagined that our simple start would lead to where we are today.
Happy Barbecuing!
